With adapted pedagogy and measurements included in the fee.

The Children and Adolescents Unit is a service in which the knowledge and experience of the Pilar Domínguez Method are applied for the treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal system disorders, and it is aimed at children and adolescents between 7 and 18 years old with presence or not of musculoskeletal disorders.

Pilar Domínguez has been pioneer with her method for more than thirty-five years in the treatment of alterations such as scoliosis, which she suffered herself, hyperkyphosis, hyperlordosis, kyphoscoliosis... We have become a support of traumatologists and pediatricians to prevent, treat and follow up on the evolution of this type of ailments.

On the first visit the parents provide the medical reports. During the course, we assess the reports which result from the periodic controls, accompanying the evolution.

We, from the Children and Adolescents Unit, make a final report which includes a summary of the attendance and evolution of the child/adolescent. It is a dossier made by the responsible technician physiotherapist of the Unit.

What do we offer in the Children and Adolescents Unit?

Classes of Pilar Domínguez Method with adapted pedagogy, measurements, first assessment visit with the physiotherapist, follow-up of the evolution and the data of the medical controls reports, collaboration with the patient’s doctor or medical team and the final dossier.

It is a service designed in order to achieve the maximum result to the effort made by the technical team, medical team, the child and their parents.

Risk factors

It is important to consider a number of risk factors, which might lead to certain pathologies or discomforts of the musculoskeletal system. These risk factors are related to our daily life. It is important to recognize them and thus be able to do a good health education especially in times of growth.
Some of these risk factors would be:

• New technologies (sedentary lifestyle and bad posture).
• School furniture.
• Excessive load weight at growing age (weight should never be more than 10% of the child's weight, for example backpacks).
• Poor and asymmetrical sports performance.
• Little body awareness.
• Negative postural habits.
• Obesity.
• Stress.

Benefits

We work to improve quality of life, school and sports performance, prevent and educate to avoid future ailments, while performing an important work of self-esteem, control, discipline and socialization.

• Improve overall body posture during daily tasks (school, housework, sports...).
• Increase flexibility and tone the muscles globally.
• Provide greater amplitude to the intervertebral spaces to remove and/or avoid excess stresses.
• When performing the exercises symmetrically we avoid the decompensation of the curvatures and the rotational component, very common in scoliosis.
• The elasticity of the posterior musculature of the body that normally tends to shorten at growing age is regained and increased.
• It improves the plantar support and therefore the biomechanics of the foot.
• Tone the quadriceps and abdominal muscles to give more pelvic stability and improving lumbar hyperlordosis.
• Prevention of muscular contractures and discomfort.
• Increase body awareness.
• Improved sense of spatial orientation, coordination and balance.
• We contribute to decrease the level of anxiety and to improve the body image, strengthening positively the self-esteem.
• It promotes relaxation and concentration development.
