The Pilar Domínguez Method, a benchmark in the therapeutic exercise and postural alignment.

What it entails

The Pilar Domínguez Method (MPD for its initials in Spanish) favours postural correction and awareness. It is a method which uses the movement with therapeutic purposes.

It consists of a combination of supervised and controlled exercises of muscle stretches, muscle toning and relaxation aimed to prevent and correct the damaging consequences of an incorrect postural alignment. The MPD provides the correct and indispensable base technic to integrate and organize the body movement in our daily live activity, work or sport, in addition to contributing to a global wellbeing.

During the lessons, the emphasis is on the conscious work of the antigravity muscles, the release of the peripheral joints, the facilitation of new neuromuscular patterns and the eccentric muscle training.

The exercises contained in the MPD are systematized and organized into two categories depending on the position adopted by the feet during the class (parallel and opening). The objective is to condition the body and achieve an adequate posture respecting the individual parameters, morphology and abilities. Not only the range of movement, strength and elasticity are working, but it also restores the posture, favouring the functioning of our organic, musculoskeletal, digestive, respiratory, circulatory and nervous systems.

Besides this preventive character, it contributes to the improvement of numerous alterations, reason why its results have been seen widely supported by several health professionals.

Pioneer in the use of the ballet barre

This method is characterized by the use of a ballet barre and the musical accompaniment of short piano pieces specially selected to accompany the cadence and rhythm of each exercise. This are distinctive elements of an own and specialized methodology in the field of postural health.

How it is practiced

It is practiced in small groups of up to a maximum of 25 people, making the teacher the precise indications for each person. Ailments and adaptations

In case of any existing ailment or physical limitation, the MPD counts on a series of exercise adaptations, reviewed by the consulting technical team and Pilar Domínguez, all gathered in established protocols included in the teachers’ educational training, who, in addition, receive continued education to guarantee an optimal praxis and knowledge update about the MPD.

The exercise adaptations program allows people who, because of their characteristics require a special rhythm, either by their age or by some alteration such as pain, can access to the method practice.
